Two nominations at the Golden Globes!
The 82nd Golden Globes had Kapadia’s film nominated under not one, but two categories! For a film that received the snub at the Oscars nominations, All We Imagine As Light‘s win at the 77th Cannes Film festival proved its real worth, and as an International co-production between companies from countries like France, India, Netherlands, Luxembourg , and Italy, it is not surprising how it achieved the huge feat.
Yet, it seems like it rained on Kapadia’s parade as the film was unable to bag an award in the prestigious categories. Nominated for both Best Director and the Best Non-English film categories, the film lost as the Golden Globes went to Emilia Perez and Brady Corbet for The Brutalist respectively. But what did the filmmaker have to say about the same?
Kapadia shares heartfelt message
Despite not winning any awards at the festival, Payal seemed to have a wonderful time. Sharing a selfie with the producers of her film Thomas Hakim, Julien Graff, and Ranabir Das, she wrote on Instagram, ‘We didn’t win, but we had a blast!’ She also expressed appreciation for the designers who helped her look amazing, saying they made her feel incredibly confident. It’s clear that Payal left the festival feeling grateful for the experience, even without an award.
Every experience is only a page added to an already overflowing book, though All We Imagine As Light may have not secured anything this time around, it was vastly successful as an Indian work of art. Moreover, it was the first film from India to compete in the main competition since Swaham in 1994. With immense props to the creators, All We Imagine As Light first premiered in India on September 21, 2024, and was later re-released in November 2024. The film is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
