Fresh music for your playlist: Rediscover these 4 absolute hits!

Fall is the season for a glow up. So why should your playlist fall behind? We all have those songs that we would sell a kidney for, just to listen for the first time again. Favourites are constant in a person’s life. But that does not mean you cannot rediscover some timeless music along with some new hits. And if that comes tailored in the form of a list, then who’s to argue?

Music can quite literally be called the soul of South India, yet some find it difficult to move on from their all time repeats. But don’t worry, we have specially curated this list to fit into your playlist! So sit back and enjoy the vibes of our picks for the fall.

  • Vethalai: Resonating within the street singers and musicians of Tamil Nadu, Vethalai amalgamates the best of the North and the South. In a colourful collaboration between Kailash Kher and Chinnaponnu, the song is a perfect indication of the beginning of the season of festivities and merry making in India. Powerful percussion beats and native instruments like the Thavil, further aid in bringing out the upbeat anthem. Released long back in 2011, it is a song that makes its presence known whenever the need arises and acts as a fitting addition to any music playlist. Coke Studio can be easily relied on for consistently putting out bangers, and Vethalai surely doesn’t disappoint.

  • Sthuthi: The track that has been taking over the South is none other than STHUTHI, the hit new song from Bougainvillea. Praising the creation and the process of the cosmos, it is a song that precedes a return, a sort of divine retribution for all the wrong doings and injustices. “To slay with love” is something that the song promises. The combined vocals of Mary Ann Alexander and Sushin Shyam with the lyricality of Vinayak Sasikumar, make it an unforgettable affair. For the revenge arc to take place, there should be some sort of background music and Sthuthi makes it all happen. • Naa Cheli Rojave: It is impossible to think of South Indian music without mentioning A.R. Rahman’s brilliant compositions. Coming from one of the maestro’s first big projects, Naa Cheli Rojave is a celebration of beauty and dedication. Irreplaceable vocals, poignant lyrics and the voice of legends Sujatha Mohan and S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, all harmonise to keep the song relevant, even after all these years.

  • Sambar: Who doesn’t like Sambar? No, I’m not talking about the dish but internet sensation ThirumaLi’s collaboration with Thudwiser, Fejo and Dabzee. Whew! That’s quite some big names. Providing for an authentic new style to combine spices and literally serve the Sambar, ThirumaLi’s meaningful rap can easily replace a cutting comeback to all our enemies. Upholding the honour of his craft, the breakthrough song articulates in verses, what exactly makes these artists really special and don’t complain if you find it smoking hot!

Now, you’re all set to embark on a musical soiree. Don’t forget to bring along some good company and enjoy your new playlist!
