Currently possessing the most number of views in the categories of “cooked”, “slayed” and “comeback”, an actress is making quite a ripple online. Given her previous statements about wanting more fulfilling roles, Jyothirmayi‘s return in a significantly different form is both unexpected and exciting!
Why is Jyothirmayi’s comeback important?
As an actress, it is very important to take wise decisions in your career. A significant number of actors have always complained about their roles, and privilege not being a viable choice for all, it is not easy to reject commercial hotshots for movies with difficult concepts that might not draw in a good quantity of audience. Plus, with various taboos already existing upon women, it is even harder to secure roles with good pay. Navigating through all these difficult probable situations, Jyothirmayi has emerged victorious on the other end!
The actress whose career turned for the better with her performance in the Malayalam soap opera, Indraneelam directed by Suresh Krishnan, had her big screen acting break in the box office hit Pilots (2000). With her role opposite actor Dileep in Meesa Madhavan in 2002, Jyothirmayi had already become a household name in Malayalam cinema and continued to be so for well over a decade, delivering a huge range in terms of roles and characters to be played. Following notable roles in played in films such as Adayalangal and Kerala Cafe, she was last seen in Sthalam back in 2013. But, with years of static silence in between, she has managed to capture the heart of the audience again.
A whole new avatar!
In a bold new look featuring a buzz cut, she appears raw and quite masculine in the promo video “STHUTHI” for Bougainvillea. The track consists of powerful sequences set along to the tunes of Sushin Shyam. It has also been a particularly good year for songwriter Vinayak Sasikumar who penned the lyrics for the song. Yet what catches the attention is her og presence on screen. With the main message being “A memory to last you till death”, the song rounds up the perfect vibe needed to accompany her comeback. Jyothirmayi among a crew of masked men, in a character that she has seldom before portrayed on screen was definitely not on my 2024 list!
On the other hand, Bougainvillea which was meant to have an Onam release, was pushed back to October 17. Appearing alongside Kunchacko Boban and Fahadh Faasil in the lead roles, Bougainvillea features Jyothirmayi in a dark action thriller avatar. As a film directed by Amal Neerad, actors Sharafudheen, Veena Nandakumar, and Srinda will also be seen in pivotal roles in the film.
With its premiere quickly approaching, it can be said that we are all counting down the days until its release!
